Madrid

 

The very first step of my trip: Madrid, a really great city!

I arrived on Thursday and have been spending some nice days here with my brother's family.

@Julien: many thanks for introducing me to Madrid Saturday night's fiesta!

I visited yesterday El Escurial, which was a historical residence of the king of Spain, built by Phillippe II in the XVIc.

The impressive cross you can see on the pictures is the monumental civil war memorial conceived by Spanish dictator Franco and built by political prisoners (at least 14 killed and many injured): the Basilica de la Santa Cruz del Valle de los Caidos. The place is a tourist site and every year marked by memorial celebrations by Franco' s nostalgic supporters.

And today is the big day: flight to Buenos Aires tonight! ;-)
